Classic gingerbreads with frosting

Ingredients for gingerbread dough: 

  • 200 g butter
  • 150g brown sugar
  • 50 g sugar
  • 6 tbsp golden sugar syrup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar syrup
  • 3 tsp gingerbread spices
  • 1 tangerine
  • 650g flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp soda

Ingredients for frosting:

1 egg white (separate egg whites and yolks carefully to achieve a good mixture of whites. For a better result take the eggs out of the fridge just before mixing.)

400g castor sugar

1/2 tsp freshly squeezed lemon juice

Melt the butter in a saucepan on medium heat. When the butter had melted, add sugar and syrups. Add the juice of the tangerine. Take the saucepan off the heat and add the spices. Add half of the flour, soda and mix thoroughly. Add egg. Mix. Add the remaining flour and knead the dough with hands. Cool the dough to room temperature approximately 20 minutes. Roll the dough out, make gingerbreads, put on a plate and bake in 200C for approximately 10 to 15 minutes.

Add lemon juice to egg whites and add castor sugar gradually. Stir it thoroughly. Put the mass in a pastry bag and allow yourself to be creative on your gingerbreads. If you wish a colourful frosting, be creative: add carrot juice or turmeric to get yellow or beet root juice to get red, etc.
